MAARTEN’S BALI FAVOURITES
We list Maarten's five favourite hotspots in Bali for you! Livingstone for example is by far his favourite place to start the day with a large breaky.

And since we are talking about my dream locations. Here’s one more on my dream list.
MY DAY OFTEN STARTS IN
Livingstone Petitenget
I go to Bali four times a year which I love. But whereas others often think that I am going again on a sort of tropical holiday, it’s just plain hard work. I often only have one month per trip with my team in Bali. That may sound like a long time but for the job I have to accomplish it’s almost always a race against the clock.
Livingstone Petitenget is a great place where I order a delicious breakfast with good coffee and list my daily do's in a very relaxed vibe.
A few times per year we launch a new collection. In the limited time I have on Bali, this collection must be transformed from sketch or idea into a sample that I can take back to the Netherlands where I continue working on it. A collection usually consists of fifteen to twenty pieces. In a completely different culture, climate and pace, this is sometimes a pretty tough challenge.

BEACH & SURFING
ULUWATU
Every now and then I love to escape from the hectic pace. Then you will find me in Uluwatu. Nature is still beautifully untouched there and you imagine yourself completely away from the hustle and bustle that you find in Bali nowadays.
Uluwatu is located on the south coast. You will find the most beautiful white sand beaches, ultimate surf spots, the truly tropical accommodations of crazy luxury hotels or villas if you like them, but also very small beachy surf shags, Balinese temples and delicious food. And most of all but I usually don't have time for that anymore, magical cliff-top sunsets.
My coffee or juice pit stop is the Drifter of the Loft (also has a cafe in Canggu by the way). Suka is also a great place. Small is beautiful! And it’s on the route to one of my favourite beaches.

the temple of enthusiasm
DEUS EX MACHINA
I am really not a shop lover. However, if I have to name a store that I love as a concept store, the whole vibe in the store and around the brand, it is definitely DEUS ex Machina in Canggu, Jl. Batu Mejan.
This is how you create a concept store. There is beer on tap. There is art on the walls. There are piled surfboards. Customized bikes. There are photo studios and a top fusion kitchen. Handmade skateboards and cocktails. It's all in the details for me, the paint spilled on the floor. Everything is fast and smooth. Music to your ears. Between the surfboards you eat the tastiest sushi and you dream away at all the cool DEUS Motorcycles that can be admired.
Deus is also my favourite clothing brand. My love for this brand started years ago with a t-shirt I got from Heidi who selected the shirt because she found it a funny brand name. I wear the brand almost every day, if it is not a DEUS t-shirt then I do wear a cap.

back to basic
Hidden bar
Although I can appreciate a beach tent like FINNS Beach Club or Patato Head from time to time, my favourite afternoons or evenings are really in the smaller bars on the beach.
The more basic the better. Just feet in the sand, beer in hand. Preferably a bottle and not a hip glass, back to basic. No pre-chewed travel guide but simply ending up somewhere. The simple life makes me happy. You can still find them if you search well.
So far my Bali top five, next trip is scheduled for November 3rd, Bali is developing so much that I will find new hotspots again. If you enjoyed reading this, sign up for the newsletter in which I regularly share my Bali experiences and hotspots with you.
